There is something incredibly special about an intimate wedding. Stripped back to what truly matters, these celebrations are filled with meaningful moments, genuine emotions, and an abundance of love. Ariel and Adam’s beautiful wedding at Thornbridge Hall in Bakewell was the perfect example of just that.

Nestled in the heart of the Peak District, Thornbridge Hall provided the dreamiest backdrop for their elegant and relaxed wedding day. With stunning gardens, breathtaking views, and timeless architecture, every corner of this remarkable venue felt like it had been made for romance.
A Beautiful Intimate Wedding at Thornbridge Hall
Ariel and Adam chose to celebrate their marriage surrounded by their closest family and friends, creating a wonderfully personal atmosphere from start to finish. Their day was full of heartfelt vows, happy tears, and plenty of laughter – the kind of moments that make intimate weddings so unforgettable.
As guests arrived at Thornbridge Hall, they were greeted by the grandeur of this historic Grade II listed estate. Set amongst more than 100 acres of Peak District parkland and surrounded by beautifully curated formal gardens, the venue combines elegance, character, and natural beauty in equal measure. The Hall has become one of Derbyshire’s most sought-after wedding venues thanks to its bespoke approach to celebrations and spectacular setting.

Why Thornbridge Hall is One of the Best Wedding Venues in Bakewell
Located near Bakewell in the stunning Peak District National Park, Thornbridge Hall offers couples an exclusive and luxurious wedding experience. The venue features beautifully restored interiors, including the magnificent Great Hall, complete with stunning stained-glass windows, ornate architectural details, and a dramatic fireplace that creates an unforgettable ceremony setting.
Outside, the grounds are equally impressive. The estate boasts formal gardens, rolling parkland, the iconic Italian Garden, and panoramic countryside views that provide endless opportunities for beautiful wedding photographs. The gardens were originally designed around the vision of creating “a thousand shades of green” and continue to enchant visitors throughout every season.
For Ariel and Adam, the combination of historic charm and natural beauty made Thornbridge Hall the perfect place to begin their married life together.

A Heartfelt First Look
Before the celebrations officially began, Ariel and Adam chose to share a private First Look, one of the most emotional moments of the entire day.
Away from the excitement of arriving guests and the anticipation of the ceremony, they took a few quiet moments together in the beautiful grounds of Thornbridge Hall. As Adam turned around and saw Ariel for the first time, his face said it all. There were smiles, happy tears, and a genuine sense of excitement as they finally got to see each other before saying “I do”.

A First Look can be such a wonderful addition to a wedding day, especially for couples planning an intimate celebration. It creates a calm, private moment together before the day begins to fly by, allowing you to connect, settle any nerves, and soak in the significance of the occasion.

For Ariel and Adam, it felt completely authentic to who they are as a couple. It gave them the opportunity to share a truly personal moment before joining their loved ones, and it resulted in some incredibly emotional and natural photographs against the stunning backdrop of Thornbridge Hall’s gardens.
One of my favourite things about their First Look was how relaxed it made the rest of the day feel. Having already spent time together, they were able to fully enjoy every part of their celebration, from their heartfelt ceremony through to spending quality time with family and friends.
Romantic Wedding Photos in the Thornbridge Hall Gardens
Following their ceremony, we explored some of the most picturesque areas of the estate for couple portraits.
The Italian Garden offered timeless elegance, with its classical statues, fountains, and manicured hedging creating a wonderfully romantic atmosphere. Meanwhile, the South Lawns provided sweeping views across the Derbyshire countryside, giving Ariel and Adam a chance to soak in the excitement of being newly married while enjoying a few quiet moments together.
One of the many reasons couples fall in love with Thornbridge Hall is the sheer variety of photographic locations available within the venue grounds. Whether you’re dreaming of grand stately home backdrops, colourful gardens, or stunning Peak District scenery, the estate delivers it all in one location.

Natural and Relaxed Wedding Photography
One of my favourite things about Ariel and Adam’s day was how effortlessly authentic it felt. There was no pressure to perform or follow a rigid schedule. Instead, the focus remained firmly on celebrating with loved ones and enjoying every moment together.
These are the types of weddings that allow genuine emotions to shine through. The spontaneous smiles, the quiet hand squeezes, the emotional embraces – these fleeting moments often become the most treasured memories.
As a documentary-style wedding photographer, my approach is always centred around capturing your story naturally as it unfolds. Rather than heavily posing every moment, I focus on preserving the real connections and emotions that make your wedding uniquely yours.
